Fixed orthodontic braces treatment
The braces are made of so-called ‘brackets’ that are attached to the teeth. The arch wire that alignes the teeth goes through these brackets. There are several kinds of fixed orthodontic braces and patients usually distinguish between the white and metal ones.
White braces are aesthetic brackets that are clear or white which makes them very discrete. This is why patients accept them with ease. Standard braces are metal constructions and are the ones that give the best results at the end of the treatment.
Teeth alignment becomes quick and efficient using metal orthodontic braces, and the braces are stable.
Fixed orthodontic braces treatment at our clinic usually takes 18 to 24 months, depending on each individual case, and requires check ups every 4 to 8 weeks. Everything outside these time frames would be an exception. During check ups arch wires are replaced, unattached brackets are glued back into place and a general evaluation of the progress is done so as to decide the further course of the treatment.

Frequent visits and braces maintenance are imperative for a successful course and outcome of the treatment.
Regular oral hygiene is of extreme importance during the period of usage of fixed orthodontic braces. Healthy teeth and healthy gums will accelerate the teeth alignment and render the results achieved more stable and durable.
The aim of an orthodontic therapy is to achieve a healthy bite and a good contact between the upper and lower jaw teeth. Dental arches need to be tied together to optimize their fitting. For this purpose patients have to use elastic ties, which constitute an important part of orthodontic therapy. The elastic ties are removed during meals and tooth brushing. By wearing the elastic ties regularly teeth are being set in the right position contributing to the quality outcome of the treatment and improving the stability of the final results.
Before the beginning of an orthodontic treatment it is necessary to perform a thorough analysis of the problem in order to set the right basis and treatment guidelines. Diagnosis and case analysis are an inevitable and most important part of the treatment. They include taking teeth impressions, casting teeth models, taking digital photos and x-ray images. On the basis of these data analysis an adequate orthodontic treatment is recommended, in consultations with the patient.
Each case is different and requires an individual and customized approach. During the consultation with the patient, an adequate fixed braces is identified, the one that best suits the patient’s needs and here at Marelić Orthodontic Clinic we prefer Damon systems.
